CALL TO WORSHIP (From Celebrate God’s Presence, adapted)
ONE: We are called here by our holy God,
ALL: who calls us each by name,
and gathers us together in the unity of
ONE: From classroom and kitchen,
from commerce and labour,
ALL: we are called to this place of worship.
ONE: Young and old and in between,
individuals and families,
soft-spoken and outspoken,
ALL: we hear our names being called to join in worship.
ONE: This is a special place. It is a place to listen for God
A place to learn of God’s love and purpose for us all.
ALL: In unity, joy and faith, let us worship together!
OPENING HYMN We Are One #402 VU
God of Amazing Love, you never cease to surprise us.
You shatter our judgments
of what is good and Godly behavior,
what is acceptable prayer, what is worthy worship.
You come to each one of us in love
and ask that we open ourselves to you.
May our hearts open to welcome you
and to worship you. Amen.
ESPECIALLY FOR THE CHILDREN
CHILDREN’S HYMN Love Us Into Fullness #81 MV
A PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God, we gather today in church,
in our Sunday best, to meet you.
Here, we put our best foot forward.
Here, we present ourselves to you,
and to one another,
as we would like to be,
rather than as who we always are.
Yet you know us.
We often fail to be the people we would like to be.
Our neat ordered appearance on Sunday
is not who we are throughout the week.
God forgive our "self" which gets in the way
of who we would be as your people.
Forgive our play-acting
as we try to be what we want others to see.
Forgive our self-righteousness and our self-loathing.
God, you meet us where we are.
Blessing us with your presence.
We are your children,
although we do not always act like it.
We need your grace.
Forgive us our failures and deceits.
Give us that which we cannot have through our
own effort - give us yourself,
that we may become all you desire us to be.
We continue to pray, offering all to you in Jesus name
(A time of silent prayer …..) Amen.

The Sunday School Teacher asks, “Now, Johnny, tell me frankly do you say prayers before eating?”
“No sir,” Little Johnny replies, “I don’t have to, my mom is a good cook!”
Mission Statement: In response to God’s call, we the congregation of Grace United Church understand our mission is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to all ages.
