God Invites Us to Worship
Life and Work of the Church
Passing the Peace
Call to Worship:
L. In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while the wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
All: And so we light our Christ Candle and gather in the name of the GREAT I AM.
Lighting the Christ Candle
Hymn: VU # 232 “Joyful, Joyful We Adore You”
Words of Assurance:
L. Let us pray: In the beginning God, you created humans in your image. Then, like now, we shuddered to think we each have a purpose, a call, the power to minister to those around us.
Like you did with Moses, each of us are called toward a seemingly impossible sight- a burning bush.
All. God- you respond: "You are mine. Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you (Isaiah 41: 9-10)
L. We cry back out to God: "If I go to someone and say to them," The God of your ancestors has sent me to you, and they ask me, “What is his name? What shall I say to them?" God says to us: "I am who I am."Tell all: "I Am has sent me to you."
All. Holy God, Holy I AM- we come this day to worship you: God of our ancestors, God of our Great-grandchildren!
L. We will maintain a burning bush on our United Church crest, to remember our ancestors, to remember that each one of us is called to serve the GREAT I AM
