Santa’s Helper Christmas Market
After the success of our last market we have decided to host a Santa's Helper Christmas Market. It will be Saturday, December 2nd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call Joyce 780--871-8989 or Shelley 780-870-0938 if you would like to book a table (only room for 30). There will be a great variety of vendors and yummy baking for your shopping convenience.
The UCW is planning to have another BAKE SALE! This time we are looking for Christmas goodies! This sale will be held on
Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 in conjunction with the Santa’s Helper Christmas Market planned for that day.
All proceeds from this Bake Sale will go to the “Mortgage Reduction Fund”.
If you would like to assist the UCW with this project, perhaps you could share some of your favorite Christmas goodies. Please bring your contributions to the church on Friday, Dec. 1st, or on Saturday morning between 8 and 9 a.m. We are also in need of help in selling. The Time & Talent Fundraiser Auction Committee, consisting of Candy Gerber, Deb Hines, Kim Holmedal, Barb Holt, Carol Simpson & Deb Lundquist, are busy planning this event for Wednesday, October 25th. It will be held in our Church Hall this time, so we will do our best to make the evening run smoothly. With a different venue, it is like starting all over.
Tickets go on sale on Sept. 1st, for $25 each (cash or cheque), and will be available at Church on Sundays, from Caroline in the Church office, or from Kim Holmedal 780-872-6739. We are selling 250 tickets, which is considerably less than previous years, so be sure to get your tickets early.
For the fourth consecutive Time & Talent event, we have Event Sponsors who will be covering the meal and the table rental, no venue coverage needed this year. Please thank them when you see them: Creative Designs/Vantage Homes, McAllister Drilling Inc., Can-Do Auto & Lube (1984) Ltd., Weir Veterinary Services, Holtby Farms Ltd., Ron Walsh Financial Security Advisor & 3 Anonymous Donors.
Starting on Sunday, Sept 17th, if you have an auction item(s) to donate, you can bring it/them to Church and we’ll do up the paperwork. We are accepting donations of new, homemade, handmade, antique items and time/talent. Rumor has it that Charlie Churchmouse is an auction item again. Tax receipts will be issued for items valued at $30 or more.

Look ahead to Spring and mark on your calendars to attend our annual Spring Salad Smorgasbord.
The date is Thursday, May 11.
Please sign up to donate salads and/or work. Signup sheets will be on the table Sunday mornings. Tickets are now available on Sundays, as well as at the Church Office for $15.00 each.
Our 5th Annual Gala is coming up November 19th. This year it will be held in our own hall – “We’re Back & Looking to the Future” is the theme. We encourage you to pick your decade - 50s, 80s or the future for your attire. The meal will be catered by Colleen’s Catering. The band, One Cent Melon, is our entertainment. Tickets are $50.00 each or a table of 8 for $400.00 with a charitable receipt for ½ of the amount. Tickets are available at the office or from Karen Ollen (306-825-2976). Tickets MUST be purchased by November 13th.
Come and help us celebrate and show our appreciation to Gladys for her 50+ years of service to the Music Program here at GUC.

Ladies of the Congregation - it’s that time again! “Lunch with the Bunch” is happening on Tuesday, Sept. 13 @ 11:30 a.m. in the Church Hall at Grace United Church.
We will be serving Kentucky Fried Chicken and all the trimmings, but the best part of this event will be the fellowship! Come join us and share what you’ve been doing this summer. Cost will be
$10.00 per person.
If you have dietary concerns with KFC, come anyway, bring something you can eat and help us kick-off our fall activities.

Grace United, Knox Presbyterian and St. John's Anglican present this years Vacation Bible School: "Spy Academy"! Kids ages 6-12 will join us at Grace United Church on August 2nd to the 5th from 9am to 12 noon. They will participate in various spy-themed games, activities, crafts, music and stories and a snack will be provided each day! 1. For starters, the Fair Booth Committee would love to have more members. If you want to be involved with a committee that does not have a lot of meetings, this is the committee for you. Our next meeting is May 31 at 7:00 in the Church Lounge. Call Debbie for more information 780-871-4821.

3. Signup sheets for the Cleaning Bees will be circulated once the dates are set.

Presentor: Mardi Tindal, former moderator of the United Church of Canada
will offer a presentation on her work with the Centre for Courage and Renewal, an organization dedicated to:
"supporting the spiritual formation of individuals - and the healing transformation of our organizations - including our churches, and larger society, by providing opportunity for:
· renewing heart, mind, and spirit;
· reconnecting personal identity and professional integrity honouring gifts and acknowledging the power of limits;
· creating a community of mutual respect and caring that welcomes the soul and honours diversity."
United Church of Canada national representative at grand opening celebrations for the Grace United Church hall and office renovation this week.
Tindal served as the 40th Moderator of The United Church of Canada, from 2009-2012, the fourth lay Mardi Tindal, writer, broadcaster, educator, and past moderator will be the Moderator in the history of the church. Her background is in adult education, writing, broadcasting, organizational consulting with a broad cross-section of society, and experience in varied national and regional church leadership positions. Prior to her election as Moderator, and following a decade of hosting Spirit Connection, the United Church's weekly television program on Vision TV, she coordinated adult programs and served as the Executive Director of Five Oaks Centre, an education and retreat centre of the church. She is currently a columnist with the United Church Observer, a facilitator with the Center for Courage & Renewal, and a frequent speaker. The Observer describes her as "a great communicator who excels in finding meaning and hope, then sharing it with those she encounters."
Tindal will participate in a public forum on "The Future of the United Church and ProgressiveReligion, Wednesday April 27th at 7:30 at the Grace United Church.
On Thursday, April 28 at 7:30 she will present "An Introduction to the Centre for Courage and Renewal", an organization dedicated to:
"supporting the spiritual formation of individuals - and the healing transformation of our community organizations.
