Thought for the Day
Wide Horizons
Abraham Joshua Heschel
The meaning of awe is to realize that life takes place under wide horizons, horizons that range beyond the span of an individual life or even the life of a nation, a generation, or an era.

Call to Worship:

One: This is a good day!
Many: A day to remember the blessings in our lives,
One: A day to affirm the goodness of life
Many: To give thanks for the gift of life.
One: Come, celebrate the mystery of a new season
Many: A time of chill winds, of rest for the earth.
One: Come celebrate the presence of the creator
Many: Known to us in the presence of others in his community
One: Open your hearts
Many: We are open to being filled with music, conversation, prayer, and hope.
Amen

Hymn of Praise: MV 145 Draw the Circle Wide
Prayer of Approach (unison)
O Holy One , source of life and giver of gift,
We choose to be here among family, friends, tradition, and exploration.
We bring our lives, the best, the worst; our joys and our hurts, our successes and our sorrows, our regrets and our dreams.
May we strengthen one another, and find nourishment for our souls
These things we pray in Jesus name…
AMEN

Sacrament of Baptism
Introduction

The Purpose of Baptism: (from 1 Corinthians 12)
As we come to this font of living water, let us recall the meaning of baptism. For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.
For by one Spirit, we are all baptized into one body and one Spirit. Now we are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
Scripture: Genesis 9: 8-13

Profession of Faith

1. In the presence of this community of faith, do you commit yourselves to follow in both your public and private life, the way to wholeness that Jesus taught?
I do
2. Do you believe in God, source of love; In Jesus, God’s love lived out in human form; And in the Holy Spirit, love revealed?
I do
3. Will you support the mission and ministry of the church?
I will
4. Will you show your child the Christian life and grow with her/him in the faith?
I will, God being my helper.
As God-parents, will you pray for this child
and take care that they may learn and live the faith?
I will, God being my helper.
Congregational Commitment:
As a baptized and baptizing church, we commit ourselves to support and uphold you within the community of faith. May God grant us all the grace to live out our baptism.

“Thankful Praises” *words & music by Jason Barnsley
With all my heart I will thank the Lord
And praise his goodness for these gifts
with wondrous praises I will sing!
Oh Lord our God accept these offerings.
I will be faithful to you my God
And I will serve you forevermore
And with thanksgiving I will sing!
Oh Lord our God accept these gifts we bring.

Celebration of the Table
Invitation to the feast
Communion Prayer

Leader: The Lord be with you
People: And also with you.
Leader: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them to the Lord.
Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
People: It is right to give God thanks and praise.
Leader: We come with hearts thankful for your incarnation in Jesus and in us, and for this time of gathering at table to celebrate every dimension of our lives.
People: We give you thanks and praise Creator God, for the gift of a world full of wonder, and for our life which comes from you.
By your power you sustain the universe;
Through Jesus the Christ you gather us into one great family.
Therefore, with all who serve you on earth and in heaven, we praise your wonderful name as we sing:
ALL: (sung) Holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might.
Heaven and earth are full, full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord,
Blessed is the one who comes,
comes in the name of the Lord
Hosanna in the highest.
Leader: We give you thanks and praise, loving God, for the gift of Jesus, who opens our eyes and our hearts, and leads us into life’s mixture of joy and pain, of its emptiness and its fruitfulness
Who shows us a life of devotion to you, and who models a life of love for others.
People: We praise you, we bless you, we thank you, God.
Leader: We give you thanks for gift of bread and vine, the physical symbols of our union with the past, present and future of our faith.
People: We praise you, we bless you, we thank you, God
Leader: On the night before he suffered and died, Jesus,
at supper with his friends, took bread,
When he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them saying,
“Take this all of you and eat it:
This is my body which is given up for you.”

After supper, Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, and gave it to his friends, and said,
“Drink this all of you:
This is the blood of the new covenant.
It is shed for you and for many, so that sins may
be forgiven.
Do this in memory of me.”

Jesus gave his life for us,
therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith
All: Christ has died - Christ is risen
Christ will come again.
Leader: We pray you, God of Love, Send your Holy Spirit upon us and what we do here that we, and these gifts, touched by your Spirit, may be signs of life and love to each other, and to all the world.
All: Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, God most holy, now and for ever. Amen.

Lord’s Prayer (sung)VU #959

Light in the midst of us,
Bring us to light and life.

People: God be for us the drink of celebration
Unite us with the river of Joy.
