Grace United Church Future Development Update December 2013
Dear Grace Friends,
The executive of the D and D Committee had a speakerphone meeting with George Berry of BAA on December 18. We further discussed the design ideas mentioned in the December 15 email update (retain/renovate the current structure facing 50th Avenue and construct a new "pre-eng" structure that would provide for a main floor hall, music room and kitchen and second storey space for children and youth programming) and a revised timeline for the project.
Mr. Berry indicated that BAA and its consulting engineers would be working over the holiday period and in early January to incorporate the ideas into the design so that new floor plans and elevation drawings can be generated.
Because of the time needed for this work, it was agreed that the congregational information meeting should be delayed from January 6 to January 13 @ 7:00 pm to provide some additional time for BAA to work on the new design. Please plan to attend this meeting as it will be an opportune to time to ask questions and offer ideas on all aspects of the project. While no formal decisions will be made at the meeting, the ideas and opinions expressed will be helpful to the D and D Committee and Central Board.
Bexson Construction has promised that they will provide approximate pricing ( +/- 10% ) before the end of January, based on the same design ideas.
As implied in the December 15 update, we are cautiously optimistic that we can come up with an acceptable design and an approximate cost that will be close to our budget and that demolition/construction can start in late winter or early spring.
