Prayer: (All)

Let us pray:

Let Your Love surround us in the darkness, O God, and lead us in the way of compassion, and welcome. Open our hearts to love as a mother loves and may we, like Mary, cradle and protect the vulnerable and the lowly of the earth.

Amen

Hope shines as the solitary star,

faith is the inner light.

You and I together mirror the Light of Lights,

and illumine the pathway home.

Peace shines as the solitary star,

faith is the inner light.

You and I together mirror the Light of Lights,

and illumine the pathway home.

Joy shines as the solitary star,

faith is the inner light.

You and I together mirror the Light of Lights,

and illumine the pathway home.

Love shines as the solitary star,

faith is the inner light.

You and I together mirror the Light of Lights,

and illumine the pathway home.

Choir Anthem: “The Advent Road”

Words and music: Douglas E. Wagner

Sermon: “The Gift that is Mary”

Hymn: VU #75 “While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks”

Words: Nahum Tate 1700, alt. Music: adapt. From Este’s Whole Booke of Psalmes 1592

While shepherds watched their flocks by night,
All seated on the ground,
The angel of the Lord came down,
And glory shone around

“Fear not!” said he, for mighty dread
Had seized their troubled mind;
“Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and humankind.

“To you, in David’s town, this day
Is born of David’s line
A Savior, who is Christ the Lord,
And this shall be the sign

“The heavenly Babe you there shall find
To human view displayed,
All meanly wrapped in swaddling bands,
And in a manger laid.”

Thus spake the seraph and forthwith
Appeared a shining throng
Of angels praising God, who thus
Addressed their joyful song:

“All glory be to God on high,
And to the Earth be peace;
Good will henceforth from highest Heaven

Begin and never cease.”

In the miracle of all new life,

there's a gift that waits to be

the hope and peace and joy and love

this world so longs to see.

Our only thanks could ever be

to offer who we are,

and share the blessings of this life

with those both near and far

Prayers of the People

The Lord's Prayer (spoken)

Our Father who art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
on earth as in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive our trespasses

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

Lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory

Forever and ever, Amen

Commissioning and Benediction

Choral Benediction: MV #213 “Take Up his Song of Peace”

Take up his song of Peace and go into the world,

Take up his song of Peace in every moment.

In every moment of the journey,

we're laying down our lives;

lay them down in peace; lay them down,

And take up his song.

Take up his song of Hope and go into the world,

Take up his song of Hope in every moment.

In every moment of the journey,

we're laying down our lives;

lay them down in peace; lay them down,

And take up his song.

Take up his song of Joy and go into the world,

Take up his song of Joy in every moment.

In every moment of the journey,

we're laying down our lives;

lay them down in peace; lay them down,

And take up his song.

Take up his song of Love and go into the world,

Take up his song of Love in every moment.

In every moment of the journey,

we're laying down our lives;

lay them down in peace; lay them down,

And take up his song.

Amen, Amen, Hallelujah, Amen (x’s 3) VU# 974
