God Invites Us to worship
Life and Work of the Church Family
Call to Worship:
A year and a half ago we gathered with Presbytery Members to covenant together to help us all discover who we are as Grace United Church, whose we are, and what God is calling us to do and be. Let us be reminded of the congregation’s mission statement.
In response to God’s call, we the congregation of Grace United Church understand our mission is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to all ages. Using the Bible as our guide, we are challenged to worship and praise and celebrate God’s love and accept God’s grace, learn God’s will, live in faith, and reach out in humble service in the community and the world.
Prayer of Approach
Loving, guiding, caring God, we have gathered today to mark another milestone along the faith journey of Grace United Church. We have struggled together to determine what we are being called to do and be. We have issued a call to a new minister to help us in that journey. We know we need to rebuild our physical building. We know that we are being called to continue and expand our ministry to the long-time members of this church and this community. We know we have to find ways of offering
meaning and purpose to the vast numbers of people, especially those under fifty who dominate the population of Lloydminster. We know that heavy demands are being make daily on our office staff to respond to needs of the hungry, the homeless and the addicted that surround this place of worship. We know there are great challenges to being an urban church at the front end of the third millennium of our faith. As we look to the future with renewed leadership, and with our faith that you are with us on our journey that lies ahead, we pray that we may fulfill our calling to faithfulness in the present and in coming decades. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Children’s Time: Symbol
Recalling the Symbols of our Covenanting presented to Tom Sawyer at our Covenanting together, March 27th, 2011.
A Bible, presented by Lyle & Diane Mabbott for Tom to be among us as one who teaches and proclaims the Word.
Water, presented by Greg Weaver, to be among us as one who baptizes in the name of Christ.
Water, towel and basin presented by Shirley Aston, to be among us as one who serves.
Bread and Wine presented by Brenda Ellison to be among us as one who cares for those who hunger and thirst.
A Measuring stick presented by Bill Luchynski on behalf of the Transition Team as a symbol from the congregation to be an inspiration during our time together in Grace United Church.
These have been signs of our common ministry in this place. May we live up to the ministry reflected in these symbols. Amen

Prayers including The Lord’s Prayer (VU 959)
We Share the Sacred Meal with God
The table of the United Church has always been open to all who are part of the body of Christ. So it is that I invite all to share in the bread and the wine, symbols of Christ’s body and blood, broken and shed for us.
Passing of the Peace
Prayer of Confession
We confess, O Lord, that as a congregation our fellowship in Christ’s name has not always lived up to the challenge of being Jesus’ hands, feet and voice at work in the world. Sometimes because of our failures, we fail to love one another as Christ loves us, to be open to the Holy Spirit at work in those around us, and to be aware of your presence in all that we do, and say and are. There are times when we need help getting back on track as we follow the Way of Christ. So we confess our corporate sins as a people of God. Amen
We also confess that as individuals we often fall short even of our own expectation of ourselves as stewards of Your Word in our world. We confess things that we have done that we should not have, and things we have not done that we have. Amen
We now confess to you in silence the things that are in our hearts and need cleansing.
These prayers we say in the name of Jesus. Amen
Assurance of Pardon:
We have experienced the forgiving empowerment of the Holy Spirit in Grace Congregation as old wounds have been healed, people have been freed to witness their faith, and new people are getting excited about new visions. Some still feel bound by past distrust, but we are assured that when we turn in true confession to God, our sins are forgiven, and are empowered to be who God calls us to be. Thank You, God. Amen.
Hymn: VU # 477 “I Come with Joy”
On the night on which he was betrayed, after supper, Jesus took the bread and said: This is my body broken for you.
In the same manner, he took the cup and said: This cup is the blood of the New Covenant. All of you drink from it.
This is Christ’s Body broken for you.
This is the New Covenant in Christ’s blood, drink of it.
Prayer after Communion:
Once again we have shared your meal with symbols of Christ’s broken body and spilled blood. We know that resurrection lies beyond Good Friday, that Pentecost with new visions and the empowerment of the Spirit leads us on to a new era. Thank you God, for calling us to be a part of your plan. Amen.
